The musical adventures of…me!
Okay, so I’ve been on a quest to find some really rockin’ music. I, like many others, have become comfortable with what I like and think that everything current is crap. What happend to the days of The Cure, Depeche Mode, Morrisey…or some good ol’ rock and roll? Or how about some hair band ballads? Just kidding about that last one…maybe.
So, I’ve taken on a new sort of adventure- finding some the kick a** cover songs. Here are my top 5 (beyond the obvious like Clapton’s version of Cocaine)
1. D. Parton’s “Jolene” by White Stripes
2. G. Micheal’s “Faith” by Limp Bizkit
3. Leadbelly’s “Where did you sleep last night” by Nirvana
4. TLC’s “Creep” by Afghan Whigs
5. J. Cash’s “Hurt” by 9 Inch Nails
More to come…
I knew it wouldn’t be long
I was waiting for something astounding to hit me before I entered my 2nd journal entry…um, unfortunately I could’ve been waiting a long time. I knew, deep down inside that I would be posting frequently about the thing I am most passionate about- animals.
For example, last week, I had to stop 4 lanes of traffic to usher a baby possum across the street. He was so tiny and quite confused so, I bolted out there and held up both hands while I was harasssed with beeps and bleeps.
SOOO, I am currently enduring boring lectures and mind-numbing readings so that I can achieve my Masters in Art Education. In the end, I will hopefully be worth more money (but none the wiser). I can jump through hoops like it’s no one’s business, though! Anyway, last night in my behavioral psychology class, it was mentioned that Pavlov-like tests are still being performed on animals: painful injections, induced vomiting, contraptions being surgically inserted…
I simply pointed out that one would think ethics would have changed the way we abuse animals, even in testig scenarios, to which, my professor’s reply was (are you sitting?) “the animals we use in the lab are saved from the pound. We give them a chance to further their lives”.
So, I inquired, “at what point do you stop caging and testing on these animals? And where do they go then?”
Well, apparently 1500 dollars in testing later they go back to the pound to be euthanized. I bet they are extremely thankful for their 6 month lease on life.
What a jack ass!
not a blog, but a bjournal!
So, in an era where blogs are taking over and keeping one’s thoughts to herself is a thing of the past, I have decided “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. And so here I am putting my thoughts on the internet for any one to see. I can’t promise anything earth-shattering, but I do promise not to bore with hum drum everyday blabber. This journal, for me, is a place to problem solve life’s injustices, prouder moments and perplexities (both big and small).
Oh, and since the word “blog” sounds like an offensive bodily noise, I am calling mine a bjournal.
Test Post
I has a wordpress.

I am a Detroit artist and educator who enjoys all forms of art, including theater, music and visual arts. Beyond art, I love animals, good conversation and Ani DiFranco (not necessarily in that order). I am president of The Detroit Upcoming Artists Guild and am always looking for new members to join us. Yeah!
